{"id":2449,"date":"2018-05-04T09:54:49","date_gmt":"2018-05-04T07:54:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.jesperjuul.net\/ludologist\/?p=2449"},"modified":"2018-05-24T15:27:57","modified_gmt":"2018-05-24T13:27:57","slug":"will_core_games_dominate_mobile","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jesperjuul.net\/ludologist\/2018\/05\/04\/will_core_games_dominate_mobile\/","title":{"rendered":"Will &#8220;core&#8221; Games dominate Mobile?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;ve had a long period where mobile platforms (were seen as) dominated by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jesperjuul.net\/casualrevolution\/\">casual games<\/a> (games flexible towards different use cases, and mostly positive in their fictions), but with the release of <em>Fortnite<\/em> on iOS, we suddenly have a situation where a more traditional shooter is top grossing.<\/p>\n<p>In an<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mcvuk.com\/business\/epics-sweeney-confident-serious-games-such-as-fortnite-will-dominate-mobile-charts-and-stay-there-forever\"> MCV interview<\/a>, Tim Sweeney argues that this is the future: that &#8220;serious&#8221; games (sic) will be dominant in the mobile charts.<\/p>\n<p>Well. It&#8217;s true that <em>Fortnite<\/em> is\u00a0<em>new<\/em> in this context in terms of being a\u00a0 top-grossing shooter.
