This is scraped from <a href=\"http:\/\/videogamegeek.com\/\">Videogamegeek.<\/a>\u00a0The top part concerns genres, and the bottom part concerns platforms.<\/p>\n<p>Looking at it, the truth is that the platform part is more useful since the data it concerns is less prone to changing interpretations: a SNES is still a SNES after all these years. But the genre chart really shows how genre labels change over time: &#8220;arcade&#8221; is no longer a useful category, &#8220;action&#8221; and &#8220;scrolling&#8221; even less so.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jesperjuul.net\/ludologist\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/Eo9kJ1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1663\" title=\"Genres and platforms\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.jesperjuul.net\/ludologist\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/Eo9kJ1-450x542.png\" width=\"450\" height=\"542\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.jesperjuul.net\/ludologist\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/Eo9kJ1-450x542.png 450w, https:\/\/www.jesperjuul.net\/ludologist\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/Eo9kJ1.png 1111w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 85vw, 450px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As a supplementary chart,\u00a0NcikVGG has posted a platform release history with an absolute vertical axis (counting # of releases). This one shows just how many games are being released these days compared to earlier days.
