And?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Since the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.livejournal.com\/users\/ea_spouse\/\">EA Spouse<\/a> story and the  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.andrew.cmu.edu\/user\/tshah\/PauschAcademicsFieldGuideToEA.pdf\">Randy Pausch document on Electronic Arts<\/a>, the subject of game developer <a href=\"http:\/\/www.igda.org\/qol\/whitepaper.php\">Quality of Life<\/a> has come up a lot. <a href=\"http:\/\/news.com.com\/For+developers%2C+its+not+all+fun+and+games\/2100-1022_3-5457274.html?tag=nefd.lede\">News.com<\/a>.<br \/>\nWhat&#8217;s usually missing in the discussion is that hard work with lots of overtime and no compensation is by no means restricted to Electronic Arts. As Tim Burke <a href=\"http:\/\/www.swarthmore.edu\/SocSci\/tburke1\/perma111704.html\">writes<\/a>, it&#8217;s also quite common in non-profit organizations.<br \/>\nMy worst overtime experiences have been working for a small Danish game development shop, working in my own company, and as an academic. It&#8217;s not just big companies and it&#8217;s not just the private sector.  At universities, we all have contracts stating that we work 37,5 hours a week.
